Overview
Responsible visitors looking for excitement in an awe-inspiring and safe environment have a range of exceptional adventure itineraries options available to them in Oman. The discerning adventurer's highlight must be to camp in the depths of the Rub al Khali and, naturally, this awesome area features as part of our comprehensive Ultimate Oman safaris that also take in much of Oman's 1,500 kilometres of unspoilt coastline, imposing 3,000 metre high mountain ranges, magnificent canyons, ancient caves and lush wadis.
Ultimate Oman
During season 2009-2010 we are offering you a unique opportunity to join our 'Ultimate Oman' adventure. A small convoy of 4x4 vehicles will be making a complete journey around the Sultanate of Oman in 2 stages over a period of 3 weeks. Starting in Muscat the safari will journey through the Wahiba Sands, travel along the eastern coast past Masirah and Duqm down to Dhofar by boat with a few days in Salalah. It will then head off north through the Empty Quarter, across the Hajar Mountains and back to Muscat.
Jebel Akhdar & Al Hoota Cave
Visit the highest mountain chain in the Gulf, rising to more than 3,000 metres and encompassing such high peaks as Jebal Shams (sun mountain) and deep canyons. Both are highly-recommended sights! Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) is called this because of its unique micro-climate and vegetation. Al Hoota Cave, at the foot of the Jebal Shams, is a 5 km underground cave encompassing a lake. With access to the site recently improved all round, the lower part of the cave is now also open to the public.
Wahiba Sands
The Wahiba Sands is an area with dunes up to 100m high, extensive woodlands and an unspoiled coastline. The Wahiba Sands extend for approximately 180km from north to south and 80km from east to west. The woodlands, on the other hand, attract large numbers of Bedouins and stretch along the western and eastern edges of the area. The Wahiba Sands can be reached within 3 hours from Muscat and it is at this northerly approach that the dunes run more uniformly in the direction of south-north making for some great photographic opportunities en route.
Musandam
This northern province with its spectacular fjords is known as the 'Norway' of the Middle East. It is strategically placed at the Straits of Hormuz and is separated from the rest of Oman by the United Arab Emirates. Its awesome scenery and rugged vistas rise up to 2,000 metres above sea level and project into the sea, creating countless inlets and coves. Roads have now been cut across the mountains of this previously isolated peninsula so that it is now more easily accessible, but the best way to explore the grandeur of Musandam is by sea.

We also offer the opportunity to immerse yourself in a wide variety of self-guided activities as part of your holiday. Whether you wish to dive, fish, trek, cycle or ride, we can provide the specialist knowledge needed for your adventure.
