Overview
We are in the exclusive position of being able to offer women of all ages and backgrounds the unique opportunity to visit the Sultanate of Oman with other like-minded travellers. You will discover the intrigue of Oman and experience first hand the Islamic way of life from a female perspective. Escorted and guided by our team of delightful Omanis, you will visit the ladies mosque and vibrant souks of Muscat and will have the privilege of learning about women's peaceful and informal way of life, including education, health and religion.
Costume
We can guarantee you fun with experimenting with Omani ladies' traditional clothing, especially from the Sharquiyah region. Each of the main regions of Oman has own traditional vibrant clothing, and none more colourful than that of the area encompassing the Wahiba Sands. With an exclusive opportunity of 'trying for size' and learning how to wear the traditional dress, some very unique memories, shared with other ladies, will remain with you for a very long time.
Jewellery & Crafts
Traditionally, silver jewellery and crafts was very important to Omanis. As most of the old silver was melted down before traders appreciated the value of antique silver pieces, there is very little remaining to buy. However, new Museums are able to display some exquisite items. The fascinating Omani culture can be retold by understanding the uses of many silver items, although now, in modern times, gold has overtaken silver in importance.
Henna
A chance to share the art and ritual of henna painting. Watch in fascination as your colleagues have their hands and/or feet painted by experienced Omani ladies. Wait for the henna to dry, and then off to the local falaj to wash off the excess and to wait for the beautiful and intricate patterns to attract many compliments. The henna-painting party is also an excellent opportunity to have fun to chat with real Bedu and urban families.
Perfume
Frankincense and rose trees, both grown in Oman, are important aspects to the perfume of this country. 2,000 years ago frankincense was a luxury rivalled in value only by gold; now, at only a few pounds a kilo, the famous incense now sweetens the air in homes, shops and mosques across Oman. Roses have a three-week harvesting season and are grown high up in the Jebal Akhdar. The sweet-smelling variety is used to distil rosewater - used for cooking, religious ceremonies and beauty treatments.
Sight-seeing
Gain an authentic insight into the male-dominated world of camel racing - at an informative, yet informal, local level. You will be well looked after by our Omani friends when you are taken as a privileged spectator at this special experience. On the other hand, you must not miss visiting the Ladies' Mosque in Muscat, as well as bartering in the various Omani souqs - particularly the famous Souq on the Muttrah cornice.
